Summary

[Impact: High – Node disruption and potential loss of data access]

There is an issue with FAS9500/AFF-A900 PCM+NVRAM11 module hardware upgrade kits for the FAS9000/AFF-A700 platforms. The issue can cause customer systems to panic during the upgrade process, and may prevent the upgrade from proceeding.

The guidance at this time is to upgrade to a version of ONTAP that prevents the issue before performing the hardware upgrade. An NVRAM11 firmware fix is available via Bug #1517441 and is bundled in targeted ONTAP patch releases.

Issue Description

Please also note this impacts the Aggregate Relocation (ARL) method of upgrading using these kits.

The solution is an ONTAP patch release with the fix for Bug # 1517441

This issue only affects AFF A900 / FAS9500 controllers used for in-chassis upgrades of existing AFF A700 / FAS9000 systems.

9.10.1P10 and 9.11.1P6 have been released with the fix.
