Summary

NetApp has discovered an issue in SANtricity OS 11.70.4GA and 11.70.4P1 that causes DLP (Drawer Loss Protection) on RAID6 / 1 disk pool(s) to be disabled. The issue only exists in 11.70.4GA and 11.70.4P1 and affects all controller models supported in this release. TLP (Tray Loss Protection) and standard RAID volumes are not affected by this problem.

Symptom

The issue can show up in 2 ways:

  1. An upgrade to SANtricity OS 11.70.4GA or 11.70.4P1 on any system with existing DLP-enabled RAID6 /1 disk pool(s) will cause DLP to become disabled. Data in the pool will be redistributed without DLP protection. Data integrity is not impacted.
  2. On systems running SANtricity OS 11.70.4GA or 11.70.4P1, new RAID6 /1 disk pools cannot be created with DLP protection regardless of the physical location of drives or controller platforms.

If a drawer failure should occur, access to RAID 6 /1 DDPs (Dynamic Disk Pools) located within that drawer would be lost.

Workaround

There is no workaround for this issue. The DLP protection on existing disk pools will be lost once upgraded to 11.70.4GA or 11.70.4P1 and DLP cannot be enabled.

If you encounter a Drawer failure, please contact NetApp Support

Solution

StorageGRID SG6060s appliances should remain on StorageGRID appliance release 2022.08 (SANtricity version 11.70.03), if they have not been upgraded already.

StorageGRID SG5760 appliance should upgrade to StorageGRID appliance release 2023.05 or later , available on the NetApp Support site. After 11.70.4R1P1 has been installed, the rebalance of data (similar to reconstruction fixing the data for DLP protection) needs to complete before the DLP flag is enabled.

StorageGRID Appliance releases are available on the NetApp Support site.

If an issue is encountered upgrading the StorageGRID appliance, additional details can be found in this kb.
