FAS8200 and AFF A300 storage systems might not boot due to BIOS hardware identification failures. System BIOS version 11.20 was released on April 7th, 2023 to help mitigate this issue.
Issue Description
FAS8200 and AFF A300 storage systems might not boot due to BIOS hardware identification failures, characterized by "BIOS POST" failure messages, such as:
- PCIe device missing
- Failed to determine the board type

Proactive mitigation:
Software and firmware fixes have been implemented to address possible boot failures and system disruptions for FAS8200 and AFF A300 storage systems.
Upgrade ONTAP and System BIOS (version 11.20, bundled with the ONTAP image) to one of the releases below:
- 9.7P22 (published April 11, 2023)
- 9.8P18 (published April 19, 2023)
- 9.9.1P15 (published April 7, 2023)
- 9.10.1P12 (published April 25, 2023)
- 9.11.1P8 (published April 28, 2023)
- 9.12.1P4 (published June 15, 2023)
- 9.13.1RC1 (published May 4, 2023)

If the storage system cannot boot:
If a boot failure has occurred and the LOADER prompt on the controller module is available, update the BIOS:
- To install BIOS 11.20 or later using a web server:
